GMC Chimerical Jam 8 Entry

I took part in the Chimerical Game Maker Community Jam 8 (which is a Game Jam where only the GameMaker Studio engine could be used to make games) on 25th May along with 2 other friends of mine: Quek Jing Hui and Joyce Toh Lay Xuan. The theme of the Jam was "Boss Fighting Game" which was rather peculiar as such a theme would mostly limit the Jam entries to only 1 genre. Of course, others would try to be creative and twist the theme however they may be able to. For example a game about beating your boss up at the office, or a game where you are the boss and defeat waves of heroes. However, we chose to stick to the theme as closely as possible and decided to create a proper boss fight. We brainstormed for awhile about how the boss fight should play out until we finally decided to settle on a great idea. The boss would be a massive slime monster and you as the player will have to defeat him by using a variety of guns present in the game. And because the boss that we picked is a slime, this opened up a variety of ideas about what the boss can do completely based on slime properties. It let us develop clever mechanics and attack states.

Overall, the Jam was a success as compared to my previous and first Jam which was Global Game Jam 2018 as in this Jam, my team had managed to submit a complete game with fully functional mechanics and it's even quite fun to play. Unlike GGJ 2018, where the game that my team and I have created wasn't that functional and had many problems.
